If you would like to get out of the city and relax on the greens then New York City has great golf courses in the area. With public golf courses scattered throughout the boroughs lush fairways abound minutes away from the concrete towers, noise and bustle of Manhattan. With golf courses and driving ranges in all five boroughs, New York City is an excellent, if unlikely, destination for golf.
Choosing a golf course can be a complicated equation; quality is what captures the imagination, but proximity and accessibility can go a long way, too. Whether you’re looking to play a course where the world’s top professionals compete or are searching for a hidden gem, New York City offers challenging terrain, gorgeous greens and scenic views. New York golf courses are shortened for women, senior golfers, and young people by positioning the forward tee closer to the hole.
Several New York’s golf courses have hosted top professional golf tournaments, such as the U.S. Open, Ryder Cup, and PGA Championship. The golf course also provides practice areas including practice sand bunkers, bent grass chipping and putting areas. Beyond the golf course, visitors can enjoy the beautiful pool complex, fine dining, and mountain biking and hiking. Whether you’re a life long New Yorker or in from out-of-town a visit to any of New York City Golf Courses and their surrounding neighborhoods are well worth the trip.
New York golf courses have no regulation length or shape, but most consist of 18 holes numbered 1 to 18. Playing all 18 holes makes up a round of golf. Some New York courses have only nine holes. Each hole is played twice for a round. Golfers can buy a bucket of golf balls for a modest fee and practice their swings for distance and direction at a New York driving range.
