New York Giants
A professional American football team, New York Giants is from the New York City metropolitan area and plays its home games at Giants Stadium. They are currently members of the Eastern Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The team was founded in 1925.
Since 1925, the team has won six NFL titles and two Super Bowls. The team finished its second season with the best record in the league at 11-1 and was awarded the NFL title. Until 1956 the team failed to win another league title. In 1987, the team won Super Bowl XXI and again after four years in 1991, the Giants won another Super Bowl XXV title.
In 1957 the Giants moved to San Francisco but continue to use "New York Football Giants" as its legal corporate name. Tom Coughlin is the current head coach of the team.
New York Islanders
A professional ice hockey team, New York Islanders is based in Uniondale, New York. The team was founded in 1972. During the team’s first season it made a record of 12-60-6 that was considered as one of the worst in NHL history. In 1975, Islanders earned 88 points and also won their first playoff berth.
In 1975-76 regular season the team earned 101 points. In 1978, right winger Mike Bossy became the third Isle to win the Calder Trophy and thus finished with the best record in the NHL having scored 53 goals. For over a quarter-century the Islanders have been on the “Fox Sports Net”.
In 1980, the Islanders won the Stanley Cup. The Islanders dominated the next two seasons. Bossy scored 50 goals in 50 games in 1981, and the Islanders knocked off the Minnesota North Stars in five games to win their second Cup. In order to increase offense the Islanders made several player moves during 2004-2005 NHL lockout.
New York Yankees
A major league baseball team, New York Yankees is based in Bronx, New York. The team was founded in 1901 in Baltimore, Maryland and also known as “The Bronx Bombers”. In 1903, the Yankees moved to New York. The team won total 26 World Series titles that make them most successful franchise in North American pro sports history. The Yankees won four straight World Championships from 1936-39, winning the pennant races by nineteen-and-a-half, thirteen, nine, and seventeen games respectively.
In 2003, the Yankees once again had the best league record of 101-61, defeated the Minnesota Twins in the ALDS, and then defeated their longtime rival Red Sox in a tough seven-game ALCS. In the 2004 American League Championship Series against the Red Sox, Yankee was the first team to lose a best-of-seven series after taking a 3-0 series lead.
New York Knicks
A National Basketball Association basketball team, New York Knicks is from New York City. The team was founded in 1946 and played their game against the Toronto Huskies at Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens, where the Knicks won 68-66. The team made the NBA Finals in three straight years i.e. from 1951 to 1953.
In 1965, the Knicks drafted Bill Bradley and Dave Stallworth. In 1967, the Knicks made it to the playoffs for the first time since 1959. In the 1969–70 season, the Knicks record 18 straight victories. During 1999–2000 season, the Knicks made a record of a 50–32 and was traded to the Seattle SuperSonics.
The team ended 2004-05 season with a 33–49 record. The Knicks' payroll is currently the highest in the league at over $130 million but still considered worst in the NBA having finished the 2005-06 season with a dismal 23-59 record. Isiah Thomas is the current head coach of the team.
